My Process
I am an intuitive abstract painter, and I see art making as a process of creating new experiences and reconnecting with memories. My work stimulates the imagination and awakens creativity. I approach the blank surface freely, without a predetermined image or outcome, drawing inspiration from memories, feelings, photographs, and observations, which I transform into abstract forms. Rather than following a fixed plan, each painting develops through an ongoing dialogue between gesture, colour, texture, and surface.
Working primarily with acrylic on paper, canvas, and panels, some of which are found or second hand, I build and rework compositions through an ongoing process of layering. Marks are added, removed, obscured, and revealed, leaving traces of decisions, revisions, and discoveries. I often work across several pieces simultaneously, allowing ideas to move between them and giving each work the time and space to evolve at its own pace.
Experimentation is central to my practice. I use a range of tools and materials, including recycled objects, spatulas, sponges, ribbons, rags, leaves, and sticks, embracing unpredictability and the qualities of the materials themselves. For me, painting is a way of moving beyond rules and limitations, creating conditions in which unexpected connections and images can emerge through sustained exploration.
My recent works are inspired by nature and explore elements such as color, light and materiality, which when merged with pure abstract shapes, can awaken certain memories and emotions in the viewer. The common thread through my work is the sense of dynamism and movement.
